Why Choose Invisalign as an Adult?
Adults often choose Invisalign because clear aligners combine discretion with convenience. The aligners are designed to fit closely over your teeth and can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, flossing, and special occasions.
Because Invisalign does not use metal brackets or wires, some patients also find clear aligners more comfortable and easier to manage during everyday activities.
At Highland Dental Center, we use digital technology to help plan and monitor treatment. An iTero digital scanner creates a detailed 3D model of your teeth, allowing Dr. Theurer to evaluate your alignment and develop a personalized treatment plan. We also use our Midas 3D printer when appropriate as part of our digital dental workflow.
We understand that many adult patients are balancing careers, families, and other responsibilities. Our team offers flexible scheduling, including evening appointment times, to make orthodontic care easier to fit into your routine.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign gradually moves your teeth using a series of custom clear aligners. Each set is designed to guide your teeth closer to their planned positions.
Your treatment typically includes:
- A digital 3D scan of your teeth
- A personalized plan outlining the intended tooth movements
- Instructions for when to change to each new set of aligners
- Regular visits to monitor your progress
- Adjustments to the treatment plan when needed
Dr. Theurer will explain your specific schedule and how long to wear each set of aligners based on your individual treatment plan.
What Should I Expect During Invisalign Treatment?
Your Invisalign treatment begins with a consultation. Dr. Theurer will review your concerns, evaluate your teeth and bite, and use digital imaging as needed to determine whether clear aligners are appropriate for you.
An iTero scan can be used to create a digital model of your teeth and help illustrate your proposed treatment. Before you begin, we will explain your treatment plan, expected timeline, and instructions for wearing and caring for your aligners.
When you begin wearing a new set of aligners, you may notice temporary pressure or tightness as your teeth adjust. Aligners should be worn according to the instructions provided by Dr. Theurer and removed for meals and oral hygiene.
Throughout treatment, we will schedule follow-up visits to evaluate your progress and make changes when necessary. Digital X-rays and CBCT imaging may also be used when clinically appropriate to evaluate your teeth, roots, jaw, and surrounding structures.
If you lose or damage an aligner, contact our office as soon as possible. We can review your treatment stage and tell you the appropriate next step.
Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces
Both Invisalign and traditional braces can straighten teeth, but the right choice depends on your orthodontic needs, lifestyle, and treatment goals.
Some differences include:
Appearance: Clear aligners are designed to be less noticeable, while traditional braces use visible brackets and wires.
Eating: Aligners are removed for meals, so there are fewer food-related restrictions during treatment.
Oral hygiene: Removable aligners allow you to brush and floss without working around brackets and wires.
Convenience: Clear aligners do not have brackets or wires that can break or irritate the mouth.
Treatment needs: Invisalign can address many orthodontic concerns, but some complex tooth movements or bite problems may be better treated with braces or another approach.
Dr. Theurer can evaluate your teeth and recommend the treatment option that best fits your needs.
After active orthodontic treatment is complete, retainers help maintain your new tooth positions and protect your results.
Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign
Can I eat normally with Invisalign?
Yes. Because the aligners are removable, you can take them out when eating. You should follow Dr. Theurer’s instructions for cleaning your teeth and aligners before putting them back in.
Is Invisalign noticeable?
Invisalign aligners are clear and low-profile, making them less noticeable than traditional metal braces.
Does Invisalign hurt?
You may experience temporary pressure or tightness when you begin wearing a new set of aligners. This sensation is generally associated with the gradual movement of your teeth.
Can adults get Invisalign?
Yes. Invisalign can be an option for many adults who want to improve the alignment of their teeth. Your candidacy depends on your bite, tooth position, oral health, and treatment goals.
What happens after Invisalign treatment?
After active treatment, retainers are typically used to help maintain your results. Highland Dental Center also provides retainer checks to help monitor your teeth after treatment.
